Founder Mary Novak led Spottswoode for over two decades. Today her daughters run the business. Beth Novak Milliken serves as president and CEO to the estate while her sister Lindy Novak acts as national sales manager. Aron Weinkauf serves as winemaker. Spottswoode stands as one of Napa Valley’s classic Cabernet Sauvignon producers well-respected for its age-worthy character, finesse, and continuity of quality across vintages.
The Spottswoode estate primarily grows Cabernet Sauvignon, with small blocks of Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot, both of which are blended with the Cabernet Sauvignon for their flagship wine. The site also grows a small block of Sauvignon Blanc. Spottswoode has been farmed organically since 1985 and certified organic since 1992. Some biodynamic practices are also utilized to continuously improve and support soil health.
Grown on the well-draining soils of the St. Helena Bench, the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 (GREAT WINE) is known for its luxurious tannin, balanced acidity, and great complexity of flavor. The wine offers beautiful floral aromatics, a mix of dark fruits, and a core of savory herbs with earthy accents.
