Winegrower Eric Sussman studied agriculture at Cornell University before heading off to France to work at various wineries in Bordeaux and Burgundy. A dedication to cool climate coastal vineyards drew him to the area of Occidental, not far from the Pacific Ocean. Once back in the States, Sussman worked at various estates in California, but eventually branched out on his own to start winery in 2002.
Sussman’s vertically integrated farming techniques, embrace of biodynamic practices and minimalist intervention winemaking define the ethos of his winery and allow him to quietly interpret the terroir of his vineyards.
The elegant Lemorel Sonoma Coast Zinfandel 2013 delivered red and black fruits on the palate, with hints of balsamic and leather. The dense and focused Harrison Grade Sonoma Coast Syrah 2014 (GREAT WINE) showed berry fruits balanced by a vibrant cherry note, an opulent but still very nuanced wine.
