LAUREL GLEN VINEYARD
969 Carquinez Ave.
Glen Ellen CA 95442
Upon graduating divinity school in the 1970’s, Patrick Campbell made his way out west to join the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center. The Buddhist monastery assigned him a small plot of vines to tend, a task in which he flourished, eventually moving on to buy the Laurel Glen property, the first commercial release of which was in 1981. Throughout subsequent years, the Laurel Glen vineyard was established as a defining site for producing high quality Cabernet Sauvignon.
Originally planted to mixed blacks in the 1800s, the Laurel Glen vineyard is now 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. At a lofty 1,000 feet a.s.l., this vineyard in the small Sonoma Mountain AVA is influenced by the wind and fog brought in by the Petaluma Wind Gap just to the west.
The Estate Cabernet 2013 (SLOW WINE) delivers spice, licorice, and a hint of chocolate followed by plum and cassis. Elegant, delightfully integrated tannins chisel the wine. The Lot 44 2012 commemorates the 44 years of Cabernet Sauvignon vintages made from the Laurel Glen property and is a homage to the age-worthy style of wines made in the 1980s. With its lavish texture, rich flavors and vibrant acidity, this wine shows great potential for aging.
