Frog’s Leap is the epitome of a family winery, headed by the Williams family (founder John and son Rory) and flanked by the many vineyard workers, their sons, nephews, and other relatives that have joined the winery over the years. The entire winery team — vineyard, cellar, and hospitality team — is employed year-round and every one of the staff enjoys produce from the estate’s organic vegetable garden, one of the many perks of working for such a fully integrated farm.
Frog’s Leap has been a pioneer of California organic viticulture ever since its establishment in 1981. The entire estate is devoted to dry farming, a contentious practice in Napa. But the approach has proven wise during the recent drought when the winery didn’t experience any drop in yield thanks to its farming regimen.
The Zinfandel 2015 is the quintessence of California Zinfandel: Co-fermented with Petite Sirah and Carignan, it delivers classic notes of black cherry and a dash of baking spices. The Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 (GREAT WINE) is a blend of three vineyards, with notes of ripe red fruits, licorice, and cassis flavors contrasted with herbal notes.
