Purchased by the Eisele family in 1969, the property was sold in 1990 to the Araujo family who first implemented sustainable farming practices on the estate. The Pinault family purchased the estate in 2013 and reestablished the original the name to reflect the site itself: Eisele Vineyard. The current vineyard manager and winemaker Hélène Mingot is a tour de force both in the vineyard and the cellar. A dedicated student of nature and the complexities of biodynamic agriculture, she has instituted a highly biodiverse and attentive farming system in the span of a few short years.
Insectaries, gardens, and native flora abound throughout the property of which less than 25 percent is dedicated to vines. The balance of woods and olive groves create a uniquely biodiverse estate nestled at the base of the Vaca Mountains just east of Calistoga.
The Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, made by the previous owners, delivered rich floral and fruit flavors with balsamic understones. Another standout for our tasting panel was the Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (GREAT WINE), made by the current winemaker, which showed both power and finesse despite its young age.
