Sitting near the top of Atlas Peak in the Vaca Mountains on the eastern side of Napa Valley, Acumen organically farms 116 acres. The site primarily grows Cabernet Sauvignon as well as small portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, all used for blending with the Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a small portion of Sauvignon Blanc.
Acumen bottles four PEAK wines, which are meant to be the best expression of the vineyard. The PEAK Sauvignon Blanc 2014 includes a deftly used portion of oak to bring greater complexity and age worthiness to an elegant wine. Flavors include a mix of citrus including grapefruit, tangerine and sweet lime, alongside fresh mineral and herbal accents. The PEAK Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (GREAT WINE) from the site is made in three wines, one for each of the two sub-vineyards of the estate, and one that represents the best barrel selection for the vintage. The PEAK Attelas Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 offers the best expression of the Attelas vineyard. It carries lifted, floral notes with a mix of red fruits and fine-grained structure with balancing acidity.
